TUBITAK MAM Institute of Chemical Technology  aims to conduct national and international projects in the field of polymer science and technology to develop high value-added products and technologies for Turkish chemical and petrochemical industry. The on-going studies within the structure of the institute are given in the following.
Membrane Production Technologies and Applications
Polymer electrolyte membranes for fuel cell

Our research activities in this field carry on under the following topics:

  •  Design and synthesis of new sulfonated monomers
  •  Synthesis of proton conducting polymers with different macromolecular architectures by combination of controlled polymerization methods and “click” chemistry
  •  Sulfonation of commercial polymers
  •  Preparation of proton conducting blend and composite membranes
  •  Thermal, mechanical and electrochemical investigation of the membranes

Three projects supported by industry, TÜBİTAK COST and 1001 programs have been conducted directly related to development of new proton conducting membranes for proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC).

  •  Nanophase separated proton conducting membranes

Synthesis and modification of polymers for the specific applications

  •  Well-defined functional polymers using controlled radical polymerization techniques (ATRP, NMP)
  •  Carborane-based polymers
  •  Synthesis, characterization and production technologies of high performance polymers with particular emphasis on polyimide, polyethersulfone (PES), polyetheretherketone (PEEK)
  •  Epoxy, polyester and polyurethane type polymers
  •  TDI/TMP containing prepolymers
  •  UV curable resins and formulations 
  •  Biocompatible polymers
